Link Auctions!!
I was reading the Chris Bloczynski dot Com and I found an interested article about Fireboard WordPress Plugin. It’s a very interesting plugin that allow advertisers to bid on link placement on a blog. The idea is great, but it’s made to benefits the blogger more than the advertiser. Now that’s a big “no no” since the advertiser needs to make a profit from advertising too, otherwise, they won’t pay the blogger to advertise. Here is a quick list of the issues that can come up.
Short Lifetime:
Since the advertiser can bid only once for placement, other bidders can remove his link in a short period. Search engines need sometime before they grab links from any blog. If the bidder link disappears before it’s grabbed and count by search engine, than the link value should be much lower.
Non-Centralized Solution:
Since the Fireboard is a plugin for individual blog, managing a lot of links on different blogs can become a full time job. Link management services alread implement solutions that allow advertiser to manage their link much faster and easier.
If this plugin worked as a solution that allow advertisers to bid on montly basis and provide sufficient information on the blog value, than a link auctoin system might benefits bloggers and advertisers in the same time.
